Mothering Sunday – The Early Years
In the UK and Ireland Mothering Sunday is on the fourth Sunday of Lent which is three weeks before Easter and therefore in March. Not surprisingly the basis of Mothering Sunday is in Christian practices. Which means no one really knows, not even the almighty and much maligned Wikipedia who claim that the day started as an annual event where one visited ones ‘mother church.’

Mother’s Day in the US
In the USA Mother’s Day is celebrated on the second Sunday in May. In 2010 Mother’s Day will be 9th May and in 2011 it will be 8th May.
